What Does IQ Percentile Mean?
An IQ percentile tells you what percentage of the population scores at or below a given IQ score. For example, if your IQ is at the 84th percentile, it means you scored higher than 84% of people. Percentiles are derived from the normal (bell curve) distribution of IQ scores.
How Is IQ Percentile Calculated?
IQ scores follow a normal distribution with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15 (Wechsler scale). The percentile is computed using the cumulative distribution function (CDF), which gives the area under the bell curve to the left of a given score.
